Economy & Shop

Project Zero has two currencies that drive the in-game economy.

Currencies

Bits

The primary currency. Earned through gameplay and used for most purchases.

  • Earned from successful hacks (including Bits Package drops)
  • Generated passively by your Miner
  • Rewarded from missions and Nexus cycle participation
  • Used for upgrades, basic items and corp research

Bytes

Premium currency for special purchases and conveniences.

  • Obtained through special means
  • Used for premium items and corp hosts
  • Can speed up certain processes — including RUSHING factory builds
  • Grants access to exclusive content

Mining System

Your Miner component generates passive Bits income over time. Don't forget to claim your mined Bits regularly!

  • Mining rate increases with Miner level
  • Bits accumulate even when offline
  • There's a cap on unclaimed Bits - claim before it fills!
  • Higher level = more Bits per hour

Upgrade Costs

Component upgrades cost Bits with exponential scaling. Each level costs more than the previous one.

  • Early levels are cheap - upgrade quickly at first
  • Mid-levels require strategic resource management
  • Max levels are expensive - choose wisely what to max
  • Upgrades also take time to complete

The Module Economy

The Fabricator Update added a whole layer to the economy (see Modules & Fabricator):

  • Decryption Keys: every encrypted module is a spending decision — which one deserves your keys?
  • Craft currency: Hotfixes, Zero-Day Exploits and friends drop for everyone, but only corp factories can use them — trade bait by design
  • Research: corporations burn treasury Bits to enable drops for their members
  • Rush fees: impatient corps pay Bytes to accelerate factory builds — each rush doubles the next one's price

Shop

The shop offers various items for purchase:

  • Utility Items: Log cleaners, Hex Map Packages, etc.
  • Combat Items: Buffs and consumables for dungeons
  • Currency Packs: Bits and Bytes bundles
  • Special Items: Unique items with special effects
TIP
Focus on upgrading your Miner early! The passive income compounds over time and makes everything else easier to afford.
