Bounces & Logs
Every connection leaves a line in the access log of the host it reaches. The log records an IP. Whose IP depends on your bounce list.
The Bounce List
The bounce list is the route of your connection. Press + next to a host in your target list to add it; the last host in the list is the one you attack, the ones before it are relays. Up to 5 hosts.
When you connect, each host of the chain logs the IP of the host right before it:
- The target only sees the last relay. With no relays, it sees you.
- The first relay sees your real IP. Pick it with care: its owner can read that log.
- Relays do not need to be cracked, and the chain does not change your crack or trace times.
What the Target Logs
Two things end up in the target's log: the connection and, if you take its Bits, the miner theft ("Miner claimed by ... bits stolen"). Both use the same IP: the last host before the target.
Cleaning Your Traces
- By hand: while you are connected, open Logs and press the trash icon on a line. You can only touch the logs of the host you are connected to, and of your own host.
- Log Cleaner (item): deletes the most recent log line, on any host, that shows your own IP. With a bounce chain that line is on your first relay.
- Auto Log-Cleaner (item you switch on in ITEMS): when you start a crack, it deletes the lines with your IP on that target. Each line it removes uses one charge.
- Interface Auto Log-Cleaner (item): adds a button to the Logs tab that presses the trash icons for you, one line after the other.
Your Own Logs: Who Hit You
The LOGS button on HOME opens your own host's log. Every connection to your machine and every theft from your miner is there, with the IP it came from. The + next to an IP adds that host to your targets. Your own IP is hidden in that window until you click it.
Writing a Log Line
While connected, the Logs tab also lets you add a line: any IP, any type, any message. Logs can lie. See Hacking for the rest of what you can do on a cracked host.
